A Baby Shower…something you’ll remember forever!
Are you, or is your best friend having a baby? What a perfect time to make an expectant mom feel special! It’s also a great opportunity to get together with friends and family and celebrate this joyous occasion. Why not include the dad-to-be also? After all, it’s his baby too. Men sometimes will feel left out, but won’t admit to it. Dads, unlike moms don’t have the pleasure of carrying a baby for nine months, which sometimes can distant him somewhat. Including the dad, may be a way to spark his interest.
If you don’t exactly know where to begin organizing your baby shower, well here are some great tips to help you get started.
1. Think of a theme, or not. A baby shower doesn’t have to have a particular theme.
2. Make a guest list. Include names, addresses, date and time of the party, and RSVP’s with a check box for will, or will not attend.
3. Send out invitations, but not too far in advance, but far enough so others can plan ahead. About three weeks is plenty of time. If you send them too far in advance, it’s more difficult for people to remember, or plan.
4. Decorations are fun if you’re planning a theme for your baby shower. Otherwise, a few balloons will do just fine.
5. Baby shower favors for your guests are nice to give in appreciation for them joining you. If you’re somewhat creative, you can make your own, or you can purchase them from specialized stores for reasonable prices.
6. Food doesn’t have to be an elaborate sit down lunch or dinner. A healthy veggie and/or fruit tray are great for snacking. You can also offer an assortment of cheeses, meats and bread for making sandwiches.
7. Baby shower registries such as babiesrus.com or walmart.com/gift registry are now available and are especially helpful if one of your guests won’t be able to attend your baby shower.
Note: It is customary to bring a gift, but it is never mandatory. The very idea that someone is there to help celebrate with the mom is in itself a nice way to say, “I care”.
8. Have someone make a list for the mom at the party as she is opening gifts, so no one is forgotten when she writes thank-you notes. The list should include names, gift descriptions and a check box indicating that the note was sent.
When it comes to suggesting, or buying a baby shower gift, try to think of useful items first. Here are a few gift ideas:
Baby diapers (always appreciated)
Baby safety products
Breastfeeding books
Large diaper bags
Blankets
Bibs
Hooded towels and wash cloths
Photo albums/scrap books
The list is endless.
Have a fun time planning your baby shower for that special mom and dad, and remember to take a lot of photos and video. You can always make copies and send them to those who couldn’t make it to your memorable baby shower.
