The Beauty Secret That Won’t Cost You a Dime!

As a member (and indulger) of the spa industry, I am the first to attest to the sheer glee that can be attained through getting hold of various beautifying lotions and potions. If my bathroom counter is any indication of my steadfast love for beauty products then I’m ranking ‘high’ on the journey towards beauty product addiction therapy.
Who among us doesn’t want ‘skin more supple’, ‘glow more radiant’ or any of the other tantalizing promise that our bevy of bottles buddies tease us with? The promise of instant beauty is entirely alluring.
Some people laugh off the idea of an ‘easy, instant, beauty quick-fix’, but what if it was that easy? What if it were easier? Well it is.
The key to becoming instantly more beautiful is authenticity.
Being authentic means living your life the way that is true to what resonates in your core. It means truly being you. It sounds like it should be a piece of cake – being you. After all, we are who we are every day of our lives. So why do so many of us struggle with it?
“Somehow we learn who we really are and then live with that decision.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt
Being authentic is about taking off the masks we wear in out lives and tapping into what is really inside ourselves so that we can truly thrive as we are meant to.
So often we instinctively put on ‘masks’ (and not the purifying kind), alter our reactions, tailor our feelings and block out anything we think will cause us harm, when in fact, what we are doing is adding another layer between who we are and who we think we should be. This can cause us more harm than moving through our feelings, but by the time we get there, we are often wearing so many masks that it becomes impossible to take them off and this is where some people lose sight of the fabulous person they are inside.
Ultimately we want who we are inside and who we show on the outside to be one in the same – when we are what we are, we are authentic. Making this connection is a powerful experience that will take you beyond even what you knew to be the real you.
“The highest courage is to dare to appear to be what one is.”
-John Lancaster Spalding
Here are some ways to get closer to your authentic self:
- Identify what you want in your life in order for you to be truly happy. If this is difficult, remember that someone who doesn’t know what they want, at least knows what they don’t want.
-Stand up for what you believe in, take action, and be passionate. Passion and authenticity go hand in hand.
-Identify times when you need to say no.
-Listen to your intuition. That little voice inside is your authentic self, and quite often it can help guide you, after all, who knows you better than you?
-Take a time out. Practice clearing your mind regularly, and take time out to acknowledge the thoughts that pass you by. This will help you feel relaxed and calm which are good indications that you are being authentic.
-Practice being positive and optimistic.
Those around us can sense when we are truly being authentic, because the light of who we really are is able to shine through and touch the people in our lives. This makes us truly beautiful, and it didn’t cost us anything at all.
"Let the beauty you love, be what you do."
-Rumi
