You’ve got to do more than just look good!
Where can you go on a first date and not have to take out a loan to impress her? Well, how about an old “romance technique” that’s making a come back in a big way. Dinner for two at your place.
Now I know you’re thinking: it will probably take you 2 weeks just to clean up, but you’ve got to get past that. Let’s come up with a fabulous meal that’ll impress the heck out of her----maybe even get you a second or third date. Here are a few pointers to make sure your home cooked meal is a huge hit.
1. Keep it simple. There’s nothing worse that attempting to make a gourmet dish and not knowing what the heck you’re doing. Forget the poached oysters with a glazed merlot sauce. Understated is the way to go.
2. Have a nice choice of wines to offer her. Depending on the dish you’re serving, a good merlot, chardonnay or cabernet sauvignon are still your best bets. Save the champagne for another first.
3. Have an appetizer ready when she arrives. I’m not talking chips and onion dip. Try a simple bruschetta with tomatoes and basil. She’ll flip.
4. Don’t rush. Make sure the conversation lingers, and if she offers to help, don’t refuse her. This will give you a chance to see what she’s like in the kitchen.
5. Serve your main meal in an intimate spot. Stay away from the kitchen table. Try setting up on a coffee table in front of the sofa. Or how about “picnic” style in front of the fireplace. ***Remember, gentlemen, these will only work if you actually have a sofa or a fireplace.
6. Now guys, for the actual meal. You could really wow her with a pecan crusted burger on a toasted sesame seed bun. It’s so easy it’s almost dishonest to take the bows you’ll surely receive. Start with 1 lb. of ground beef. Add ½ cup of the following ingredients: Minced onion, minced basil, and minced parsley. Now add 1 tsp. steak sauce and 1 tsp melted butter. Mix together till well combined. Form into 4 large patties. Press the patties in about 1 cup of finely diced pecans and place under the broiler for about 3 – 4 minutes on each side. Keep an eye on ‘em, boys. It makes a real bad impression if you have to call the fire department. Toast the buns and serve with tomatoes, onions and lettuce. Make sure to have your condiments handy.
7. Serve the burgers with a nice green salad. Try a mixture of field greens with some fresh orange slices. Make a light lemon and olive oil dressing and you’re good to go!
8. Don’t forget dessert. Again, simple is best. Serve a scoop of really good vanilla ice cream drizzled with your favorite liqueur. Top with some fresh fruit and you’re suddenly a rock star—at least in her eyes.
Well, she’s probably going to be all over you or at least begging you for the recipes. Just a few more simple tips and you’re on your own. Use linen napkins. They’re pretty inexpensive and they make a great statement. Bring out real wine glasses; save the plastic for your football buddies. Light some candles. I’ve never met a woman who didn’t love candlelight. And last but not least, I will guarantee one of the best nights of your life if you use a real pepper grinder. Ah, we gals are such suckers for kitchen gadgets.
